George Osahon is a geologist with over four decades of working experience in the Nigerian Oil and Gas space wherein his multifaceted experience as an operator, contractor, consultant, and regulator has solidified his position as an industry veteran. He began his career in 1974 as a geologist with the Geological Survey Department, Jos during his NYSC after graduating with a degree in Geology from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. From there, he moved to the Geological Survey Office in Sokoto in 1976 before which he had a short stint with the Nigerian Steel Development Authority (NSDA) in Kaduna. He transitioned to the Nigerian National Oil Corporation (NNOC) in 1976, which became the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in 1977. Over the next 16 years, George played a role in shaping Nigeria’s upstream oil and gas operation through his contributions to exploration efforts at the NNPC. Within that period, George proceeded to Imperial College, London in 1980 for a Masters’ program in Petroleum Geology.
In 1992, George ventured into the private sector, becoming Chief Operating Officer of Allied Energy Resources Limited and over a period of ten years he applied his technical and strategic expertise to expand the Company’s operational footprint period by growing the company from scratch to a 7,000 bopd oil producer. In 2005, George rejoined the NNPC, taking on senior roles that culminated in his appointment as Group General Manager of the Nigerian Content Division in 2007 before his exit in 2009. Between 2013 and 2015, he served as the Director of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) which recently transformed to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) under the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021. Currently, George serves as the Managing Director of Geo-Concept Technical Limited, a consultancy that provides strategic guidance to operators and asset holders in the upstream oil and gas sector.
George is a member of several professional organisations including the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). He is a fellow of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) as well as a fellow and past President of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE). He is currently the Chairman of the Association’s Board of Trustees (BOT).
